128 Page Commemorative Book
Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) is the body responsible for match officials in English professional football. PGMOL hold an annual conference and wanted to produce a commemorative book to showcase images and achievements from the 2019/20 and 2020/21 football seasons.
We designed several layouts using large hero shots of the match officials and the competitions they had refereed that year. These spreads feature a montage style of action shots, the club crests and small accent graphics to create a layered and dynamic style. The design also includes small icon based textured patterns to represent the formations, positions and technical measurements associated with football and refereeing. We assigned a main colour for each double page spread but alternated this using a range of 6 complimentary colours to give each spread a different look.
The front and back cover is GF Smith Colorplan on a thick 350gsm premium uncoated paper. We also went with a gloss white foil which is slightly debossed when applied with a little extra pressure to give the logos a dull satin sheen, this adds a real mark of quality and sophistication to the book.
This book is something that will be a keepsake for the referees, some of which have since retired, so it needed to convey a sense of achievement, emotion, dedication and resilience over a 2 season period which were particularly hard years due to the global pandemic.
